COPRA DRYERS IN PHILIPPINE

PHILIPPINE COCO EXPORT UP SHARPLY IN FEBRUARY. Preliminary UCAP data show CEMENT MANUFACTURERS TO ASSIST COCO FARMERS BUILD COPRA DRYERS. Davao Oriental is the leading coconut producer in the Philippines. SCIENTISTS AT the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod, Kerala, have developed a simple multi-source dryer for copra. Centrifugal dryers have also been tried and are said to give good and if properly handled always produce a high grade of copra. This dryer (Fig. 10) has been developed at the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod. PhP 738,000.00) to build kukum dryers in the Philippines (see table). Accession number;99A0684921 Title;Design and Performance Evaluation of Pit Dryer for Copra Drying. Each dryer costs about P200,000 to set up. At present, traders buy the ordinary copra for P27 to P28 a kilogram based on data from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA). It strongly appears that the copra quality problem in the Philippines cannot be solved by technical solutions alone. Philippines Coconut Products Project €€€€€June improvements to the design of the multi-crop dryer and burners.
